About the Opportunity

The ARC partners with other agencies in jointly funding four major Australian Co-Funded Centres, the Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics (co-funded with the Grains Research and Development Corporation), National ICT Australia (NICTA) (co-funded with the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy), the Australian Stem Cell Centre (co-funded with the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research) and the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training (co-funded with the National Water Commission).

The ARC is seeking a motivated Project Officer, with strong analytical, communication and project/program management skills, to join our Co-Funded Centres team in the Policy Coordination and Governance Section. Workloads are often unpredictable and require staff responsiveness and flexibility to meet tight deadlines.

Working as part of a team the successful candidate will undertake program management and policy and operational activities to enable the ARC to fulfil its role in supporting research and research training through the Co-funded Centres. Under limited supervision, you will:

  • Undertake planning, research and analysis in relation to the Co-Funded Centres;
  • Prepare policy advice, reports, briefings and correspondence;
  • Administer, monitor and report on the Commonwealth's investment in the Co-funded Centres;
  • Represent, liaise and negotiate on behalf of the ARC with organisations and individuals including: Co-Funded Centres other Commonwealth agencies and higher education institutions;
  • Supervise staff as required;
  • Undertaking other tasks related to enhancing the research and training outcomes of the Centres as necessary.

The successful candidate should possess the following:

  • Highly developed written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to prepare reports, briefings correspondence and effectively liaise with stakeholders;
  • Sound analytical and research skills;
  • Ability to apply sound judgement and provide strategic policy advice;
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities;
  • Demonstrated ability to work both positively and effectively in a team and independently;
  • Knowledge of the matters and stakeholders relevant to the Commonwealth's interest in research and research training and the ARC's objectives and programs.
